In the spirit of encouraging interdisciplinary work, the University of Edinburgh has largely supported Biodesign-related activities.
From 2017 – 2018 a Biodesign course was run across the School of Design and School of Biological Sciences. The course was set up by Naomi Nakayama and Larissa Pschetz, with help of Eric Thorand, Anais Moisy, Bettina Nissen, and later Joe Revans. It was open to all postgraduate and advanced undergraduate students. In both years, students have taken part in the international Biodesign Challenge. Naomi Nakayama later reformulated the course which is still offered to students from the School of Biological Sciences.
